About the Event

The FabLab Seminar Series is excited to host the talk of Luis Natera Orozco from Central European University, on ”How to improve urban transportation infrastructures” using large scale datasets for urban analyses and developing algorithms to optimize urban mobility networks.

***About the Talk***  Urban transportation networks, formed by layers like sidewalks, bicycle paths, or streets, provide the backbone for movement and socio-economic life in cities. However, during the last century cities have grown to accommodate a car-centric vision, to retrofit these changes and improve the quality of life for their inhabitant's cities are increasingly investing in their bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, services and micro mobility-options (bicycle-sharing systems, and electric scooters). In his talk, Luis will showcase interdisciplinary data-driven studies to illustrate the use of large datasets for urban analyses and the developing of algorithms to improve urban infrastructure.

***About the Speaker***   Luis Natera is a Ph.D. candidate in Network Science at the Department of Network and Data Science at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. His research revolves around urban mobility in multiplex urban networks, bridging urban planning and complex systems. Currently, he is working on the application of network science methods for sustainable urban mobility. Before coming back to academia Luis gained experience working in industry and government, in roles related to urban planning, public policy, and data analysis.

***About the Seminar Series*** The FabLab Seminar Series are regular public events about cutting edge research in the area of network and data science with applications to social, political, economic and cultural problems, where both young and seasoned, Romanian and international scholars present their most exciting work. The events are organized by the Social Fabrics Research Lab at West University of Timisoara in collaboration with diverse partners. All the events are free of charge and open to the public.
